Prism2 device support in SUSE Linux
===================================

For cards using Prism2/2.5/3 chips there are three different drivers,
which are included in SUSE Linux, namely 'hostap', 'wlan-ng', and
'orinoco'. The default driver since SuSE Linux 9.2 is 'hostap' as it is
the only one that has WPA capabilities. In case you do not need WPA
and have problems running your card with hostap, you can use another
driver.

Choosing the driver
-------------------

The approriate driver for a device gets choosen by the device IDs
compiled into the drivers. As there are multiple drivers for Prism2
devices, SUSE Linux uses a module configuration file (namely
/etc/modprobe.d/prism2), which defines what driver to use for the
devices. You don't need to edit it by hand. There is script called
'switch_prism_driver' you can use to activate one of these drivers,
and deactivate the other ones. It does this globally for all cards,
but if you only use one single card, then this is sufficient. Just
call the script with the wanted driver as parameter,
e.g. 'switch_prism_driver wlan-ng' to use 'wlan-ng'. Please note that
in case there were already a driver loaded you may need to unload it
before the new one can be used.
